Who is Sean Nix?
Trusted Servant • Tested Leader
Sean Nix was born and raised on the Southside of Chattanooga. He spent his childhood in the Alton Park, Piney Woods, and St. Elmo communities, attending Hamilton County public schools and Lookouts games. Sean pursued higher education at Fisk University and UT Chattanooga to receive a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a Master's degree in Public Administration.
In 2016, Sean co-founded the I Am Foundation with his life partner D’angelo Davis to establish a safe haven for LGBTQ+ youth. Sean would begin his service with the NAACP that year, serving as the first LGBTQ+ Taskforce Chairman for the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Branch until 2020. During his service, Sean deepened his advocacy for racial minorities' rights, within the LGBTQ+ spectrum and overall.
Two years later, Sean served as Campaign Co-Manager for Dr. Warren Mackey’s re-election bid for Hamilton County Commission, as well as Campaign Manager for Tennessee State House Representative Yusuf Hakeem. Throughout those campaigns, Sean was able to show his resolve and passion for the community that he loves so dearly. Seeing what was truly needed from government, he was even more determined to bring a better quality of life to people in Hamilton County.
While working as a Behavioral Health Specialist and an eighth grade Social Studies Teacher in Hamilton County Schools in 2019, Sean was elected to the Hamilton County Democratic Party (HCDP) Executive Committee. He served two consecutive terms, prioritizing outreach to underserved and marginalized communities across the county. His commitment to democratic values is tested and true, illustrated by the vote of acclamation which elected him as Vice Chair of the HCDP in 2021.
